Message Queuing Telemetry Transport, or MQTT for short, is an open message protocol for machine-to-machine communication. With just a few basic principles, hundreds of thousands of devices can be connected. Linked into the integration software Lobster_data, MQTT can be used for many applications.

The Process Load Optimisation module in Lobster_data redistributes individual processes to the processor cores in the server in the event of load peaks – and thereby increases its performance.

Steffen Brehme is the managing director of Lobster GmbH – a company specialising in data and system integration, digitalisation and business processes automation software, based in Munich’s South with branch offices throughout Europe. In the following interview, Steffen Brehme talks all things digitalisation in business, latest trends and how Lobster is helping other companies navigate digitalisation.

The digital revolution is in full swing. The government is subsidising digitalisation projects on an unprecedented scale and a large number of statistics and surveys has revealed that SMEs are no strangers to the transition, either. What’s more, the corona-virus pandemic is acting as a catalyst which is only further accelerating the already rapid progress of this digital movement. Dismissing digitalisation as a mere trend would play things down.

Bitkom’s recent report on Industry 4.0 says it all: The number of companies tailoring their business models to accommodate digitalisation just keeps on growing. Most recently, figures jumped from 59 percent in 2018 to 65 percent in 2019 before leaping to 73 percent in 2020.

A growing number of companies are discovering the many advantages of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and its ability to automate the exchange of data between systems and applications. Benefits include increased reliability of business processes, lower costs and fewer errors. But it is companies in the transport & logistics sector as well as retail, in particular, that could be reaping the rewards of integrating EDI within their business processes.
